I have talked a bit in the past about skincare and beauty products I use. I am by no means a full-time beauty blogger, or even a half-time beauty blogger, but part of being a lifestyle blogger is sharing with you the experiences and things that inspire me day to day.
Skincare was something I didn’t truly pay much attention to until about two years ago. From the time I started wearing make-up around 14, I was using over-the-counter acne medicine, my beloved Cetaphil, Proactiv, and many years of different types of Neutrogena products. Now, at the time, I am sure these skincare products were helping to decently maintain my skin, and all I truly wanted for them to accomplish was decreasing the amount of acne I ALWAYS had on my face.
Fast forward 10 years, I finally woke up one day and realized that if I invested in my skin, it would be one of the best gifts I could ever give both my current and future self. Here I was, 24 and still struggling with acne, not necessarily severe, but enough that I still was not always comfortable stepping out with no makeup on or at least concealer for my pimples.
We were out for brunch, a typical start to our Sunday, when I decided to pop into Sephora! I have heard wonderful things about Clinique’s new line of matte lipstick with a built-in primer. I will admit that I keep things pretty typical and natural with my makeup and I don’t tend to shy away from the norm. I saw this color, Blushing Pop, and knew that it was just soft enough to add to my everyday makeup routine.
As I continue to tell my readers over and over again, it is so important to me to use beauty products that are light, airy, and oil free! Outside of my daily beauty routine, I don’t spend much time pampering myself with as many spa facials and masks as I would like. I tend to keep my beauty regimen pretty simple, making sure I wash my face every morning and every night and do my best to wear lots of moisturizer too.
When I was introduced to evian® Facial Spray I was excited for the chance to use a lightweight moisturizer that has as few ingredients as it gets, water and minerals. Yes, you read that right, and yes, I know evian® is most famous for their French Alps drinking water, but they are stepping up their game with this mineral water facial spray. I use the spray every morning or night after I get out of the shower to help set in the moisture, so you could say it has become my #AnytimeSpa. It has improved the redness in my skin and has balanced out the oily vs. dry skin battle that I am going through right now, as we transition from season to season.
I have always been a huge fan of all bareMinerals products. I first started using their products two years ago during Christmas time. As someone who has struggled with an oily face, large pores, and acne for most of my teen and adult life, I finally found a natural makeup line that improved my skin.
For the past two years I have been using this foundation which has done wonders for my skin and always gave me a luminous finish! I was smitten to find a foundation that I could wear that actually improved my skin, covered my imperfections, while not causing more breakouts. I am sure this has so much to do with the entire line of bareMinerals makeup remaining completely natural and organic!
With fall quickly approaching in San Francisco, I decided to step-up my beauty regimen and shy away from the dewy summer-glow look, and try for a more matte look for fall. I recently purchased the new matte foundation in Fairly Medium and it comes in the form of a loose powder just like the original foundation.
I feel pretty lucky when it comes to my hair. I was blessed with natural red hair, which I thought was a curse, more than a blessing as a child, but with each year, I learn to embrace it more and more. My hair tends to be pretty manageable and believe me, I am thankful that I don’t have to spend 45 minutes fixing it every morning.
With all of that being said, my hair has gotten much more wavy and frizzy since moving to the San Francisco area. I’m assuming that living 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean hasn’t helped my cause, with the constant fog and increase in moisture.
I was so thankful for the opportunity to try a Keratin Smoothing Treatment to make my hair silky smooth and help tame all my loose hairs and frizz. It was my first time visiting Halo Blow Dry Bars and my goodness was it such a wonderful experience! Upon arriving at Halo, I was greeted with smiles and offered a glass of champagne – it doesn’t get better than that!
The space was gorgeous and open, and I was lucky to be one of the first customers of the day, so I was able to snap a few pictures of the salon before it got too crazy. I immediately fell in love with the hair dryers that hang from the ceiling, both practical and stylish!
Here are a few more snapshots that show off the amazing decor and space that is Halo!
Blanca was my stylist and she took great care of me! She explained that this particular treatment should make my hair feel very smooth and conditioned, but might not necessarily solve my natural waves. She began by shampooing my hair with a special shampoo that made my hair feel squeaky clean, due to the fact that it opens your hair follicles to prep your hair to absorb as much moisture as possible during the treatment.
After she was done shampooing my hair, she started to lather the thick Keratin Treatmentconditioning cream onto my hair in layers until I ended up like this:
I entertained myself with reading a few magazines and relaxing for 20-30 minutes until it was time to start the final step.
Time passed quickly and before I knew it, it was time to blow dry my hair with one of those super awesome blow dryers hanging from the ceiling! As Blanca blow dried my hair, she would also go over my hair strands in layers with a flat iron to seal in the Keratin Treatment as the final step.
And now for the results which absolutely blew my mind…and Blanca’s! She said that no one’s hair has ever turned out to feel and look like mine as soon as the process was complete, so this was wonderful news!
And just like that my hair has never felt softer or healthier. I was blown away by the instant results, so I couldn’t wait to see what the next 72 hours had in store! The instructions were to avoid getting my hair wet in any way for the next 72 hours, in order to let the process fully develop and take hold in my hair.
72 hours later (and same shirt for consistency) my hair felt and looked even better! This is my hair 45 minutes after I got out of the shower and having only brushed it – no blow dryer, flat iron, serum, creams, NADA! It was completely dry, silky smooth, and straight within 30 minutes of me stepping foot out of the shower – AMAZING!
I couldn’t be happier that my hair is now naturally straight, silky, smooth, and looks healthier than it has in years. Thank you Halo Blow Dry Bars for sponsoring this post and allowing me to truly fall in love with my hair all over again!
Have you ever had a Keratin Smoothing Treatment or are you now thinking of going for it? I would love to hear your thoughts and stories about the treatment!
