I have talked a bit in the past about skincare and beauty products I use. I am by no means a full-time beauty blogger, or even a half-time beauty blogger, but part of being a lifestyle blogger is sharing with you the experiences and things that inspire me day to day.
Skincare was something I didn’t truly pay much attention to until about two years ago. From the time I started wearing make-up around 14, I was using over-the-counter acne medicine, my beloved Cetaphil, Proactiv, and many years of different types of Neutrogena products. Now, at the time, I am sure these skincare products were helping to decently maintain my skin, and all I truly wanted for them to accomplish was decreasing the amount of acne I ALWAYS had on my face.
Fast forward 10 years, I finally woke up one day and realized that if I invested in my skin, it would be one of the best gifts I could ever give both my current and future self. Here I was, 24 and still struggling with acne, not necessarily severe, but enough that I still was not always comfortable stepping out with no makeup on or at least concealer for my pimples.
I decided to treat myself to my first ever facial at SkinSpirit down in Palo Alto. It was a few days before we would take off and head to Coachella for the first time, and I knew what a dream it would be to be able to prance around the festival for four whole days with just sunscreen on. I met Jessica, my esthetician, and after an hour and a half of her massaging, cleansing, a little picking (professional removal of blackheads and pimples is a tad painful), steam, and multiple layers of lotion and creams, I was so ready to see the results.
I have only been to Jessica and every time I go, she makes the experience so relaxing and always tailors the appointment to my specific skin needs. I have really oily skin, large pores, acne, blackheads, redness, and she uses specifics cleansers, serums, spot treatments, and lotions to truly transform my skin.
After the appointment is over, my skin tends to be a little inflamed, but I am not in the slightest bit of pain. You might also notice that my face appears to be very slick, which is from all of the steam and layers of moisturizer and serum’s she uses.
Also, one of my very favorite things about SkinSpirit is the incredibly comfy bed you get to lie in. It is heated and it feels like you are laying on a cloud, which always makes me drift in and out of sleep.
After my most recent appointment, Jessica helped me find a new moisturizer that was lighter than the Kiehl’s Pure Vitality moisturizing cream that I was using at night before bed. She suggested SkinMedica’s Rejuvenative Moisturizer and I absolutely love how light it is on my skin, while still allowing it to feel hydrated, but not oily.
Also, I was able to stock up on one of my favorite skincare products, SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel, which is hands down the lightest moisturizer or serum I have ever used. It absorbs right into my skin leaving absolutely no greasy or oily residue and makes my skin feel so much smoother. Another reason I love this product, it really decreased some slight wrinkles in my forehead I was starting to see, and provides optimal hydration without clogging my pores – it’s a miracle worker for my skin!
Three days after my facial, this is what my skin looks like first thing in the morning when I wake up!
100% CLEAR – yes, this is real life!
I cried, a true ugly cry, the first time I saw my face a few days after my first facial. It was some very happy tears after 12 or so years of dealing with constant acne, and I had started to give up hope that I would ever get rid of my acne and oily skin.
I now see Jessica once every 3 or so months, a little less than I should, but it has still made a significant difference in my overall skin health and appearance. My acne is non-existent the first 4-6 weeks after, with just a few here and there in between appointments. My redness and pore size is significantly reduced and I swear my skin looks better than it did in college!
I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience at SkinSpirit in Palo Alto, and there are many more clinics all throughout the Bay Area and also in Washington.
If you have ever been on the fence about going to a skincare clinic and spa to get a tailored facial for your skin type, I would highly suggest it. It is well worth the money to feel 100% beautiful and comfortable in your skin without any make-up on.
Thank you SkinSpirit for sponsoring this post and for making each experience better than the last and for truly helping to transform my skin over the last two years!
